My grandmother, would tell Herby, he was going to be late for school.  
Herby would reply, "Thank you Mrs. Minor, but they will wait for me." 
Herby was the only African American child in the school at that time.
The school was located on Boundary St.  It was in the 1930's, I think.
At one time, African American students in Kirksville had to go to Macon or Moberly to attend high school.

It was in the 1959 when African American students could go to the Kirksville Public Schools.
